About the Gambia

The Gambia is one of Africa's easiest and most rewarding birdwatching destinations. With more than 550 recorded bird species packed into a country just 480 km long, visitors can experience forests, mangroves, wetlands, river systems, beaches and savanna habitats within short travelling distances.

Outstanding Guide

We visited Gambia in November of this year and arranged for a bird guide through our hotel . Ebrima Barry was an outstanding guide . He was so knowledgeable and knew the areas we wanted to visit extremely well . Not only was he a fantastic birder but he was patient and took lots of time explaining the biology of the species we saw . Always on time , safe driver , great sense of humour - highly recommended .

Amazing bird watching trips at Kotu creek, Brufut, Kartong and others

My wife and I spent two weeks in The Gambia from November 24 till December 10 '23. We booked 6 bird watching trips at the office of the Gambia Bird Watchers Association near Kotu bridge. Bakary Jarjou was our local guide during all these trips. The birding .... it's just amazing. So many different species in the most beatiful colors and plummage. I was able to photograph 6 different species of kingfishers, 4 species of rollers, 5 species of bee eaters, multiple herons, lapwings, raptors and little warblers.
