Conserving The Kotu Creek
Kotu Creek is one of The Gambia’s best-known birdwatching locations and one of the country’s most accessible wetlands. Despite being close to hotels and popular tourist areas, the creek supports an impressive variety of kingfishers, bee-eaters, rollers, herons, raptors, waders and many other bird species throughout the year.
Like many important wetlands, Kotu Creek faces increasing pressure from urban development, pollution and habitat disturbance. The Bird Watchers’ Association supports efforts to promote responsible use of this internationally important birding site while encouraging visitors to enjoy the area in ways that minimize disturbance to wildlife.
