Meet Our Licensed Bird Guides

The Bird Watchers’ Association, The Gambia represents a network of experienced, licensed bird guides dedicated to sharing the country’s remarkable birdlife while promoting conservation and responsible tourism.

Our members bring decades of field experience, local knowledge and a passion for helping visitors discover more than 550 bird species across The Gambia’s forests, wetlands, river systems and coastal habitats.

Below are some of the association’s elected officers and senior members who help lead our organisation and support bird conservation throughout the country.

Yaya Barry

President
Yaya Barry has been guiding birdwatchers since 1996 and is one of The Gambia's most experienced birding professionals. As President of the Bird Watchers' Association since 2022, he leads the organisation's conservation, training and international outreach activities. A regular participant and speaker at Global Birdfair, Yaya has spent nearly three decades promoting The Gambia as one of West Africa's leading birdwatching destinations.

Pa Ousman Jallow

Vice President
Pa Ousman Jallow has held numerous leadership roles within the Bird Watchers' Association and currently serves as Vice President. With extensive experience in conservation, guide development and organisational leadership, he is committed to strengthening sustainable birdwatching and sharing best practices with guides and local communities.

Lamin Sidibeh

Chairperson, Council of Elders
A founding member of the Bird Watchers' Association, Lamin Sidibeh has more than 35 years of experience in birdwatching and conservation. Former Chairperson of the Association, he now serves as Chairperson of the Council of Elders, providing strategic guidance, mentoring younger guides and supporting conservation initiatives throughout The Gambia.

Fatounding Colley

Social Secretary & Licensed Bird Guide
Fatounding Colley has worked as a licensed birdwatching guide since 2007 and has played an important leadership role within the association for many years. Passionate about conservation, community engagement and environmental education, she works to inspire future generations while promoting responsible birdwatching throughout The Gambia.
