Located less than 30 minutes from Farafenni in The Gambia’s North Bank Region, Kaur Wetland is one of the country’s most important inland floodplain habitats. Seasonal flooding creates a rich mosaic of shallow pools, grasslands and mudflats that support an exceptional diversity of resident and migratory birdlife throughout the year.

Habitat

The wetland consists of seasonally flooded grassland, shallow freshwater pools, mudflats and open floodplain. The constantly changing water levels mean bird diversity varies throughout the seasons, making every visit unique.

Best Time to Visit

The best birdwatching conditions are generally found during the dry season from November to April, when receding water levels concentrate birds around the remaining pools and exposed mudflats. Early morning visits provide the greatest bird activity and excellent lighting for photography.
