The Bird Watchers’ Association, The Gambia is the country’s leading professional organisation representing licensed bird guides. Established to promote high standards of guiding, conservation awareness and sustainable birdwatching tourism, the association brings together experienced local guides with extensive knowledge of The Gambia’s remarkable birdlife and natural habitats.
Working closely with the Gambia Tourism Board and other conservation and tourism partners, the association helps visitors experience one of Africa’s premier birdwatching destinations while supporting local livelihoods and the protection of important bird habitats.
Association members guide visitors throughout the country, from the wetlands of Kotu Creek and the forests of Bijilo and Abuko to the River Gambia and many community-managed conservation areas.
Our mission is to promote professional bird guiding, support the conservation of The Gambia’s rich birdlife and habitats, and encourage sustainable tourism that benefits both visitors and local communities.
Through education, training and collaboration, we work to strengthen guiding standards while showcasing The Gambia as one of West Africa’s leading birdwatching destinations.
